As early as 17th December 2020, Nigeria reported the surge of a second COVID-19 wave with records of over 930 confirmed cases daily. The Nigerian Medical Association declared the second wave to be more catastrophic and cited that more than 20 doctors have lost their lives within a period of a week.
South Africa has reached over 14 796 new cases and over 293 related deaths as cited by Stats South Africa by Christmas morning and bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 983 359.
